Potnia Theron and the Three Moons by Evelyn Albrow

Potnia Theron, sometimes known as Lady of the Beasts, emerged as a fusion of thoughts and imagery that had been circulating in Evelyn Albrow’s mind and sketchbooks for some time. The concept draws from ancient depictions of Potnia Theron, with the oldest known representation made from clay around 6000 BC and discovered in modern-day Turkey. Evelyn was intrigued by how these ancient objects might signify goddess worship and the existence of strong matrilineal societies.

This charger also explores Potnia Theron’s connection to Artemis and the moon, which inspired Evelyn to incorporate multiple moons into the design, emphasising themes of femininity, nature, and ancient spiritual traditions. The piece reflects her interest in blending historical symbolism with contemporary artistic expression.
