Hugo Ciappi is a Franco-Italian painter who studied at the University of Florence. His work is informed by a soft gaze, capturing intimate scenes of daily life. His subjects are often caught indulging in sensual pleasures or vices, evoking the bitter-sweetness of working-class life. Both through his subjects and his technique, Ciappi conveys the grotesque excesses of our zeitgeist. The overabundance of paint and thick brush strokes hit the spectator with the wasteful vices of a consumerist society.
Hugo Ciappi currently lives in London.
