See Gull by Teddy Hansen

Mixed media on canvas.
2024

This painting is part of FATHERLAND, an exhibition by Teddy Hansen.

Maybe Danish people are happy because of their perfectly tanned skin?

This piece is about how seagulls help sailors to achieve the perfect tan without burning. The painting shows a seagull destroying a bunch of sunflowers, which represent the sun itself; it does this by eating and shitting on them.

On the seagull’s back is a boat with a sail made out of a parasol, which happens to be made of a bird, perfectly blocking the sun from scorching the sailors. Behind the gull’s heads, you see the sun blocked and diffused by the bird’s presence.
