Sentient Seas/Thalassa by Katalina Caliendo

In Sentient Seas/Like Me and Sentient Seas/Thalassa Caliendo considers the sensual and transformative strength in the feminine through shell-like forms. In her piece, Like Me the shell spreads open revealing not a pearl, but rather the transformative interior of self. In the piece Thalassa there is an enveloping of layers; named after the Primordial Greek Goddess of the Sea, whom with Pontus created all the living organisms in water, Thalassa represents the Mother and continuous cycles of creation with an emphasis on enfolding.
