The Giantess and the Whispering Hare by Evelyn Albrow

This charger was the final piece Evenlyn Albrow created for her collection, completed during the deep, dark days of wintery January—a time when she was longing for the arrival of spring. To capture a sense of renewal and joy, she asked female friends and family to send her photos of themselves looking joyful. She also enlisted her studio pal to pose as the giantess in the piece and had her photograph Albrow herself kissing the studio floor, inspired by a ritual she read about in Jen Allen’s Clay: A Human History, where women would kiss the soil to encourage growth or fertility.

The charger features rich symbolic imagery: a fern unfurling in the siren’s hand, Morris-belied eggs emerging from the giantess’s mouth, and a spring hare perched like a magical witch’s familiar on the shoulder of a flower nymph, all celebrating themes of renewal, fertility, and the anticipation of spring.
